Editorial Project Manager

Remote Full-time
Editorial Project Manager at Future of StoryTelling About Future of StoryTelling: Future of StoryTelling is a multidisciplinary story studio that’s been crafting award-winning creative work for decades. From pioneering Virtual Reality spacewalks from the International Space Station for Meta, to curating and producing immersive innovation festivals for Fortune 100 executive teams, we don’t just tell stories – we invent new ways to experience them. Our collaborators include high caliber clients such as Meta, Google, Adobe, Microsoft, Apple, and Chanel, who trust us to lead them through the evolving landscape of storytelling and technology. FoST’s book division, Melcher Media, is a leading producer of award-winning content with a reputation for helping authors and companies translate their brands into innovative, tactile, and impeccably produced illustrated books. For more than 30 years we have been at the forefront of storytelling, publishing 33 New York Times best-sellers and winning multiple design awards for both apps and print products. Our clients have included some of the biggest names in TV, film, and retail, including J.J. Abrams, Al Gore, Oprah Winfrey, HBO, Lexus, and Nike, among others. The Role: We are seeking a full-time Editor, Storytelling & Content Strategist to join our team and take a lead role across two vital storytelling domains: • Overseeing narrative development and content creation for a groundbreaking new immersive, interactive museum. • Serving as a key editor and producer for Melcher’s award-winning book program—conceiving, crafting, and executing editorial visions for bespoke publishing projects as they arise. This role calls for a strategic storyteller who thrives on variety, juggles high-stakes deadlines with grace, and brings impeccable editorial judgment, design sensibility, and a deep passion for meaningful narratives. Key Responsibilities: Museum Editorial Leadership • Act as editorial lead on deliverables, ensuring clarity, high quality design, and brand alignment across all touchpoints. • Develop and edit high-profile presentations and proposals for senior leadership and VIP benefactors. • Lead the writing and creative development of annual reports, naming guides, story guide updates, and other core documents. • Conceive, write, and collaborate on the production of event invitations, mock-ups, donor gifts, story cards, educational materials, and more. • Work closely with design, production, and strategic leads to translate complex ideas into elegant, emotionally resonant content. • Respond quickly and calmly to urgent requests—particularly around high-visibility meetings or media moments. Book Editorial Production • Take a leadership role on a wide range of publishing projects—from initial concept development through final production. • Edit content ranging from manuscripts to sidebars, captions, and custom inserts. • Lead creative teams of writers, designers, and freelancers; maintain strong relationships with authors and clients. • Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the editorial and visual visions are fully realized. • Apply strong visual sensibility in selecting imagery, overseeing layouts, and shaping the physical experience of each book. • Stay curious, energized, and collaborative—bring ideas, inspiration, and excellence to every stage of the creative process. • Proactively contribute ideas for new projects, and reach out to potential new clients when appropriate. Who You Are: • A natural storyteller with 5–10 years of editorial experience in publishing, content strategy, or creative production (experience with museums, illustrated or custom books a plus). • Equally confident editing a compelling sentence, shaping a big-picture narrative, or crafting a donor-ready pitch deck. • Exceptionally organized and capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines at once. • Adept at working with high-profile personalities and clients while keeping creativity and collaboration front and center. • Curious, creative, and excited to make work that is smart, inspiring, and impactful. What We Offer: • A chance to shape the storytelling backbone of a historic new cultural institution. • The opportunity to help bring ambitious books to life—from memoirs to multimedia epics. • A team of passionate and creative storytellers. • A culture of creativity, excellence, collaboration, learning, and initiative. Role Logistics & Details: • Full-time, salaried employee position with benefits • Salary range from $80K-$100K, depending on experience. • We are also open to a part-time candidate focused on the museum editorial leadership scope. • Preferred location is New York City, but open to remote candidates.
