[Remote] Lead Narrative Designer

The Walt Disney Company is embarking on a mission to create a new interactive universe through its Disney Digital Entertainment division. They are seeking a Lead Narrative Designer to develop compelling narrative experiences for interactive games based on Disney's extensive portfolio, collaborating with a talented team to create groundbreaking game experiences. Responsibilities • Work with project leads and other developers to create compelling narrative experiences that are fun and engaging. • Manage the work for a narrative team and lead the development of narrative design while working in a cross-disciplinary pod structure. • Work with internal partners to ensure narrative and dialogue meets the standards and needs of various IPs. • Be a hands-on developer in the creation of narrative content for several interactive games and experiences based on Disney’s robust portfolio of characters and worlds including Disney/Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars. • Work with the leadership team on voice over casting and participate in and direct voice over sessions. • Implement, test, and iterate on narrative systems and narrative content. • Help design narrative design systems and tools to be used in the development of narrative content. • Create and implement narrative content using Unreal Engine, UEFN (Unreal Editor Fortnite), and scripting in Verse in both the development and live service environments. • Write, update, and maintain detailed design documentation. • Provide guidance and mentorship for other Narrative Designers. Skills • 8 years of game development experience, including at least one shipped game in a Lead role. • Implemented narrative content using an industry-standard toolset (Unity, Unreal, etc.). • Have been a leader and developer on multiple shipped products and have familiarity with developing products on various gaming platforms – Console/PC and Mobile. • Excel at partnering and collaborating with key stakeholders, working through challenging problems and reaching consensus to achieve great things. • Have a special appreciation of Disney’s IP, including characters and lore, linear media and movie franchises, theme parks design, and overall aesthetics. • Are familiar with the narrative requirements of writing within existing IPs. • Have experience designing narrative systems such as conversations, barks, and chatter as well as designing tools to implement these systems. • Are familiar with various narrative tools and using them to put narrative content in game. • Have participated in the VO(Voice Over) casting/recording process and have directed voice-over sessions. • Enjoy creative problem-solving and creating something new and innovative. • Have a strong sense of what makes for interesting and compelling narratives in video games. • Have strong storytelling abilities and a deep understanding of interactive narrative design. • Understand best standards and practices of writing within a variety of different genres. • Able to communicate effectively with other teams and groups. • A Bachelor’s degree in English or Creative Writing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
