Illustrator Needed for Children’s Book
About the book: Our children's book introduces thirteen children from around the world and reveals a typical meal they might enjoy on any given day. Through food, the story celebrates cultural diversity and helps young readers understand that ‘normal’ meals looks different everywhere. Countries featured include Mexico, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Italy, Japan, Nigeria, Sweden, France, America, and more. Our goal is to create a beautifully illustrated, culturally sensitive, and joyful picture book that both children and parents will treasure — one that broadens perspectives and builds empathy through the universal language of food. What We’re Looking For: We’re seeking an experienced children’s book illustrator who can bring warmth, authenticity, and charm to a global story. The ideal illustrator will: - Capture cultural diversity respectfully and accurately. Characters of different ethnic backgrounds should appear authentic, not stylized or caricatured. - Depict food realistically and appealingly — bright, fresh, and identifiable by people from each represented country (e.g., Tao from China enjoys congee with green onions and duck). - Convey a joyful, inclusive tone that feels fun, modern, and globally relevant. - Design a colorful, inviting, and engaging cover that captures the book’s celebratory spirit. Deliverables: - 13 double-page spreads (one per child/country) - 1 book cover (front and back) - Possibly small spot illustrations (to be discussed) - Final files suitable for both print and digital formats (CMYK, high resolution) Style Reference: We’re drawn to: - Bright, modern, yet timeless illustrations - Natural proportions and genuine warmth — nothing overly cartoonish. - Rich but cohesive color palettes that invite curiosity and connection. Timeline: Flexible, but ideally completion within 8–12 weeks once the project begins. Tone & Values: We’re looking for someone who understands that representation matters - someone who values cultural accuracy, empathy, and joyful storytelling. If you love creating art that connects children across cultures, we’d love to hear from you!
