You will create detection logic tailored to the organization's risk landscape using industry-specific intelligence and advanced use cases. You will refine and optimize detection rules, signatures, and signals in collaboration with other cybersecurity groups. You will conduct a thorough evaluation of threats and vulnerabilities, profile risk actor behaviors, and increase risk indicators. You will execute simulated attack scenarios to evaluate the resilience and detection abilities of internal systems and processes. You will evolve and implement superior detection mechanisms for emerging threats. You will develop and implement novel risk-looking and detection engineering techniques and methodologies. You will deliver comprehensive and accurate reviews and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences. • *Key Responsibilities** • Create detection logic tailored to the organization's risk landscape using industry-specific intelligence and advanced use cases • Refine and optimize detection rules, signatures, and signals in collaboration with other cybersecurity groups • Conduct a thorough evaluation of threats and vulnerabilities, profile risk actor behaviors, and increase risk indicators • Execute simulated attack scenarios to evaluate the resilience and detection abilities of internal systems and processes • Evolve and implement superior detection mechanisms for emerging threats • Develop and implement novel risk-looking and detection engineering techniques and methodologies • Deliver comprehensive and accurate reviews and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences • Provide insights and guidance to enhance protection controls and mitigation strategies • Collaborate in red team activities to bridge the gap between offense and defense • Maintain current knowledge of the latest cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and TTPs, and communicate this information to relevant groups within Verizon • *What We're Looking For** We are seeking a highly professional and inspired individual to join our team as a Distinguished Engineer – Detection Engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and collaborating in risk research campaigns, from identifying emerging threats and designing adversary emulation tests to leading detection research and assisting in the implementation of effective remediation. The successful candidate will own a strong flair in knowledge of adversary behaviors, detection engineering, endpoint protection solutions, networking and protocols, firewalls, databases and middleware applications, and the ability to guide efforts to support VCS and broader Verizon goals. • *Requirements** • Bachelor's degree or 3 or more years of work experience • 3 or more years of relevant work experience • 3 or more years of risk research, detection engineering, risk looking, or red team experience • Two or more years of experience in risk research, turning procedural cyber risk intelligence into adversary emulation plans while building related detections • Even higher when you have one or more of the following: + Experience teaching or teaching others about adversary behaviors, detection engineering, or red teaming + Knowledge of the SIGMA project + Knowledge of the LOLBAS project + Knowledge of the MITRE ATT&CK Framework + Proven experience in building tailored shielding abilities + Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to bring complex security ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders + Industry certifications such as GCED, GCFA, GCTI, or GDAT + Experience with Purple Team activities + Solid knowledge of blue team methods and technologies (EDR, NDR, SIEM, data sources, risk looking, etc) + Ability to perform Shell scripting or automation of simple tasks using Bash, Python, or Go + Ability to think creatively and assume significantly to solve complex security problems + A strong preference to be a leader in cyber security using slicing edge research • *What We Offer** Verizon is dedicated to maintaining a Total Rewards package that is competitive, valued by our employees, and differentiates us as an Employer of Choice.
