Optical Network Engineer (DWDM)
Network Engineer II, Optical 12-Month+ Contract | Fully Remote (U.S.-Based) $35-$40/hour W2 We’re seeking an experienced Network Engineer II (Optical) to join our client's engineering team on a long-term contract basis. This role focuses on designing, engineering, and implementing DWDM network capacity across the U.S. and Canada. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in optical systems, DWDM design, and capacity management, along with solid communication and project coordination skills. Key Responsibilities • Design, link-engineer, and implement new success-based capacity on existing DWDM networks. • Plan, design, and fulfill network capacity requirements across the U.S. and Canada. • Collaborate with Project Managers, Design, and Implementation Engineers to resolve design and deployment challenges. • Develop DWDM network designs in line with architecture standards and projected growth. • Implement circuit designs and provide technical direction on transport and facilities requirements. • Review and validate capacity requests, clarifying design-related issues as needed. • Maintain project and order details in internal systems; update project status and ensure deadlines are met. • Support field operations with provisioning and troubleshooting network design issues. • Identify and prioritize critical tasks to meet tight deadlines and performance targets. • Participate in network and operations-related projects and assist during escalations. • Stay current on evolving optical network technologies and participate in cross-training opportunities. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Minimum of 3 years of experience in telecommunications or data networking. • Strong understanding of optical systems and signal flow design using ROADM technology. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace (Visio, Excel, etc.) and project management tools. • Strong communication and problem-solving skills; ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities. • Familiarity with the following platforms and technologies preferred: • Optical Systems: Fujitsu, Adva, Ciena, Cisco, Infinera, Nokia • Project & Workflow Tools: Salesforce, ServiceNow, Sitetracker (or equivalents) • Telecom Inventory Systems: Metasolv (a plus) Job Type: Contract Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour Expected hours: 40 per week Benefits: • 401(k) • Dental insurance • Health insurance • Vision insurance Application Question(s): • Please summarize your experience designing DWDM based networks (Ciena, Infinera, Nokia) Work Location: Remote
