We are excited to announce a new opportunity for a Criminal Defense Paralegal to join our client, a US-based law firm. This remote position requires an individual with substantial knowledge and expertise in criminal defense law who can assist attorneys in managing a diverse range of cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation by organizing case files and conducting in-depth legal research.
- Draft a variety of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and client correspondence pertaining to criminal defense matters.
- Review and summarize evidence, including police reports and witness statements, to support case strategies.
- Maintain an organized case management system, ensuring all documentation is properly filed and accessible.
- Communicate effectively with clients, witnesses, and experts to streamline case progress.
- Support attorneys in trial preparations by coordinating exhibits and organizing materials.
- Conduct legal research as needed to aid in case development and strategic planning.
- Assist with administrative tasks including billing and case management duties when required.
Requirements
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience within a legal setting.
- 2-3 years of experience as a paralegal, with a focus on criminal defense being highly desirable.
- Comprehensive understanding of criminal law and pertinent legal principles.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Familiarity with US criminal law on both state and federal levels.
- A minimum of one year of experience in a law office or legal environment.
- Solid writing and drafting skills.
- Experience with CLIO Manage software is a plus.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Able to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Experience with case management software is an advantage.
