Forensic Bookkeeper / Forensic Accountant Needed for Small LLC Financial Review (Construction/Real Estate)
Description:
We are seeking an experienced forensic bookkeeper or forensic accountant to help review the financial records of a small real estate development LLC. This is a targeted, cost-conscious engagement intended for someone who can efficiently analyze QuickBooks data, bank statements, invoices, and internal spreadsheets to identify irregularities, classify transactions, and highlight red flags.
The project involves reviewing financial records relating to construction of a 10-building apartment development, where there are concerns regarding:
Possible self-dealing
Potential improper payments to related entities
Unexplained transfers or withdrawals
Construction expenses that may not relate to the project
Incomplete or inaccurate bookkeeping entries
Potential misappropriation of funds
We already have access to the books, including bank statements, contractor invoices, ledgers, and internal spreadsheets.
Key Responsibilities:
Review bank statements for the LLC and identify unusual or unexplained transactions
Reconcile payments with invoices, pay apps, or supporting documents
Identify payments to related companies or personal accounts
Compare construction expenditures to reasonable market expectations
Flag potential duplications, unapproved draws, or improper reimbursements
Summarize findings in clear, plain-English memos for use by legal counsel
Identify missing records and recommend follow-up document requests
Deliverables:
Red Flag Summary listing any suspicious, undocumented, or unusual transactions
Transaction Classification (normal construction cost, owner draw, related-party payment, questionable transaction, etc.)
List of Missing Documents needed to complete the analysis
Optional: High-level reconciliation of expenditures vs. project scope
Qualifications:
Experience in forensic bookkeeping, small-business accounting, or construction accounting
Ability to interpret QuickBooks, Excel spreadsheets, and bank statements
Familiarity with related-party transactions and LLC financial structures
Experience supporting attorneys or participating in financial disputes is a plus
Ability to work efficiently and keep costs down
Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills
Rate & Budget:
Seeking hourly rate in the range of $60–$100/hour, depending on experience
Expected initial engagement: 20–40 hours
Additional work possible depending on findings
