About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Teen Counselor to join our team at the Andrew & Walter Young Family YMCA. As a Teen Counselor, you will play a vital role in planning, organizing, and leading program activities that promote the physical, emotional, and social development of teenagers. Your expertise and guidance will help create a safe and supportive environment where teens can build positive relationships, develop new skills, and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and lead daily program activities, special events, and weekly teen clubs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of teenagers
• Provide leadership and supervision to program participants, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times
• Develop and instruct lesson plans that align with YMCA guidelines and promote learning, growth, and development
• Build effective relationships with teen participants, parents, and guardians, fostering a sense of community and encouraging parent involvement
• Assist with program evaluation, monitoring, and reporting, ensuring that all programs meet the highest standards of quality and compliance
• Maintain accurate records, including incident/accident reports, and adhere to YMCA safety protocols and policies
• Collaborate with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of programs and services

Essential Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• 2-4 years of experience working with school-age youth or teens in a group setting
• Current certification in CPR/First Aid/BLS or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire
• Completion of Youth and Teen Safety Training prior to the first day of scheduled work
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, including a criminal record check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record check

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as education, psychology, or youth development
• Experience working with diverse populations, including underserved communities
• Knowledge of program development, implementation, and evaluation
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teenagers
• Familiarity with YMCA programs and services, including youth development, education, and community building
