Job Overview and Responsibilities
As a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer at Southwest Airlines, you will play a critical role in developing and maintaining our Payment Card Industry (PCI) tokenization products, ensuring the security and compliance of our payment systems. You will also support authentication libraries and authorization libraries used by our application development teams to integrate with our enterprise authentication and authorization services. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing security guidance to application and partner teams to remediate security vulnerabilities, risk items, and policy exceptions
- Delivering training to users on the use of key cybersecurity systems and digital platforms
- Identifying cybersecurity issues, planning solutions, recommending software and systems, and guiding advancements in a deliberate manner to meet business requirements
- Serving as an influencer to reflect the latest cybersecurity standards and practices
- Acting as an enterprise informed authority (SME) and champion of IT Security standards and reference architectures
- Acting as a mentor to both colleagues in cybersecurity and partner teams
- Staying current with industry trends and developing business cases for changes
- Leading teams to find the best solutions and demonstrating thought leadership while ideating and testing group think
- Managing prompt response and maintenance to production program issues
- Collaborating with production testers to identify defects and complete testing
Essential and Preferred Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a strong foundation in cybersecurity, as well as excellent technical, communication, and collaboration skills. The following qualifications are essential:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, cybersecurity, engineering)
- Proven experience in cybersecurity, with a focus on security-related software, authentication, authorization, and network security
- Skilled in agile methodologies and continuous improvement
- Proficient in at least one cloud computing technology (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and its concepts
- Experienced in infrastructure as-code (IaC) development (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and automated configuration management involving configuration as-code (CaC) development (e.g., Chef, Puppet, Ansible)
- Knowledgeable in implementing cybersecurity-specific integration tests, providing identity, security policy, and cryptography
- Familiarity with at least one execution, logging, and monitoring tool (e.g., Prometheus, ELK Stack, AppD) and their integration into platform tools like AWS CloudWatch
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience with certification management tools and solutions (e.g., AWS Secrets Manager, CyberArk, Hashicorp Vault)
- Skilled in creating defined build jobs for continuous integration of security and DevOps
- Knowledge of at least one existing component in the value pipeline (e.g., PingFederate, eDirectory, Active Directory, CyberArk, Miniature Center IDM)
- Proficient in at least two scripting and development languages (e.g., Java, TypeScript, Python, Go, Rust, Lua)
- Familiarity with secure proxy and/or API Gateway - Ambassador Proxy, F5 APM, PingAccess, Layer 7 API Gateway, AWS API Gateway
- Experience with authorization (e.g., XACML, OPA, Cedar)
- Knowledge of distributed systems (e.g., REST, gRPC, SOAP, CORBA)
- Understanding of data protection (e.g., PCI tokenization, pseudonymization, x.509 certificates, mutual TLS)
