We're seeking an experienced and compassionate Pre-Admission Nurse to join our team on a remote basis. As a Pre-Admission Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing telephone-based nursing services, information, and education to adult and pediatric patients (and/or their families) scheduled for elective surgical procedures prior to their entry to the hospital. Key Responsibilities
As a Pre-Admission Nurse with our team, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Providing telephone-based care to pediatric and adult patients from culturally diverse populations who are having elective surgeries on the East and West campuses of the U of MN Medical Center and U of MN Masonic Children's Hospital.
- Assessing patient needs and developing an individualized nursing plan of care that addresses their unique physical and psychosocial needs.
- Coordinating nursing care with the care of all other health team members, including physicians, outside clinics and agencies, and internal departments.
- Initiating age and culturally appropriate measures to meet patient needs, including patient/family teaching as appropriate to age.
- Collaborating, consulting, or making referrals if unable to perform independently, ensuring that all actions are based on scientific, ethical, or ecological principles, proven effectiveness, practice standards, patient/family requests and values, or legal parameters.
- Communicating verbal and written information in a clear, concise, accurate, and timely manner, using communication strategies appropriate to patient/family needs for information, education, and support.
- Demonstrating ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
- Completing all initial and annual required learning relevant to the role, and complying with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
- Contributing to a team-oriented work environment, and maintaining a clean, safe, and professional remote workspace.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Essential Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in perianesthesia nursing, with proficiency in assessing the physical and psychosocial needs of a culturally diverse patient population.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to exercise professional judgment.
- Computer knowledge and skills, with the ability to maintain an internet connection consistent with Fairview standards at remote workspace.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
