Key Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Tesla, your key responsibilities will include:
- Demonstrating and designing mechanical systems and components, including plastic, metal, and sheet metal parts, conveyors, protectors, wire-harnesses, clips, and other parts.
- Conducting mechanical design analysis, including thermal, structural, design for assembly, and design for testing.
- Resolving gadgets packaging issues, including isolation, EMC, RF transmission, thermal management, interconnection, shock, and vibration management.
- Using engineering principles to create test plans, identify root causes for field or test failures, and implement fixes.
- Creating drawing packages and instructions for proper assembly and assembly of designs.
- Assisting with engineering prototype builds and part manufacturing.
- Collaborating with other mechanical, systems, electrical, digital control, manufacturing test, industrial design, and test engineers to meet design and program needs.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- A deep understanding of the material science of parts used in mechanical design (metals, encasings, plastics, connectors, gaskets, channels, etc.).
- At least 2 years of experience using 3D mechanical design and analysis tools (CATIA v6, Hyperworks experience preferred).
- Excellent communication skills.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following skills and experiences are preferred:
- Experience using CATIA v6.
- Experience with DFMEA, DVP&Rs, failure analysis, and statistical control techniques.
- Knowledge of GD&T, finite element analysis, and design for reliability concepts.
- Working knowledge of Matlab, Labview, and Python.
- Experience with designing products that receive global safety certifications.
- A basic understanding of electrical design fundamentals.
