Can you look at a funnel and immediately see where the story breaks? We need a direct response expert who knows how to turn paid traffic into customers - not by running endless A/B tests, but by understanding what actually persuades people to buy.
About Uproot Clean
Uproot Clean is a fast-growing, eco-friendly pet care brand scaling across major retailers like Walmart, Target, and Chewy. Our DTC channel is a critical growth lever, and we're looking for someone to own the entire conversion experience - from ad click to purchase to upsell. As a lean, performance-driven team, your work will directly impact revenue and unit economics.
The Role
This isn't a traditional CRO role. You'll own conversion strategy across our entire funnel - tightening messaging, crafting offers, fixing friction, and building pages that actually persuade. You'll work at the intersection of analytics, copywriting, and UX, partnering closely with our marketing and creative teams to ensure every touchpoint moves people closer to purchase.
If you understand direct response at a deep level and can spot where a funnel loses momentum just by looking at the data and experience, this role is for you.
What You'll Do
Diagnose Funnel Performance
• Analyze how different ad angles perform on specific landing pages
• Identify mismatches between ad promises and page delivery
• Spot friction points before they drain ad spend
• Track performance shifts by device, creative angle, and traffic source
Turn Insights Into Action
• Use scroll depth, heatmaps, and session recordings to understand real user behavior
• Find the "why" behind drop-offs, not just the "where."
• Build hypotheses from data insights, not guesswork
• Create a steady testing pipeline that moves fast and calls winners cleanly
Optimize the Entire Shopping Journey
• Rewrite or reorganize product pages and landing pages to tighten message flow
• Collaborate with internal copywriters on high-impact rewrites
• Add proof points, comparisons, FAQs, and demos where they drive decisions
• Strengthen offers, bundles, subscription flows, and upsells for maximum clarity and conversion
• Optimize upsell strategy to match front-end offers and maximize Funnel-Level Contribution Margin
Own Site-Wide Conversion Strategy
• Conduct regular audits with fresh eyes
• Align pages with current campaigns and winning ad angles
• Push for bigger UX or layout changes when incremental tweaks aren't enough
Collaborate Cross-Functionally
• Partner with marketing to ensure funnels match messaging
• Work with design and dev to get tests and changes live quickly
• Keep everything on-brand while optimizing for performance
What Success Looks Like
• Higher Contribution Margin Per Session across all funnels vs. baseline
• At least one test live per funnel at any given time
• Clear documentation of insights, test results, and ongoing optimization roadmap
Requirements
• 3-6 years in direct response marketing, CRO, or funnel optimization (preferably DTC)
• Deep understanding of direct response copywriting and what persuades buyers
• Strong analytical skills - you can quickly spot patterns in data without overcomplicating
• Hands-on experience managing designers and developers to execute tests and changes
• Move fast and think clearly - you don't hide behind jargon or analysis paralysis
Nice to Have
• Experience with Shopify or other e-commerce platforms
• Background in subscription or bundle optimization
• Understanding of paid media metrics (CAC, ROAS, Contribution Margin)
