Position Overview This is a multifaceted position. We are a lean and agile organization where each team member jumps in to solve any problem that we are facing. However, below are general descriptions of the anticipated work you will perform: · : Organize and manage case files, track and calendar deadlines, and ensure all case documentation is up to date and readily accessible. File pleadings in state and federal courts. Be, or become, knowledgeable about applicable rules in the various courts and ensure pleadings are filed in conformity with the rules and practice standards for each judge. · : Manage administrative responsibilities for cases and the firm, such as case scheduling, managing calendars, tracking case costs and invoices, reviewing and responding to attorney email correspondence, and working with third-party vendors that administratively support the firm. · : Conduct client intake, respond to phone calls, and communicate with clients empathetically and professionally. · : Draft and prepare simple motions for lawyer review and submission in both state and federal court. · : Draft initial disclosures, discovery requests, and discovery responses for lawyer review. Review and organize documents received in discovery. · : Conduct thorough investigations into civil rights violations, which may include accessing and capturing social media, gathering evidence through records requests, interviewing witnesses, and documenting findings to assist in developing and pursuing case strategy. · : Assist attorneys in preparing for trials, depositions, and hearings, including organizing trial exhibits, coordinating witnesses, and providing courtroom support. Preferred Qualifications We are seeking someone who has experience as a paralegal, preferably in a plaintiff-side civil rights or employment practice, or someone who is highly motivated to learn how to be a successful paralegal in this high-paced practice. A paralegal certification is not required. However, we are seeking someone with the following qualifications: · Highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities · Excellent written and verbal communication skills · Ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently · Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Legal Practice Management Software (preferably FileVine) · Strong research and investigative skills · Spanish speaking and writing proficiency · Commitment to the causes we champion Salary and Benefits The anticipated salary for this position is an hourly rate comparable to $60,000-$70,000 per year, depending on experience.
